HomeUncategorizedSuccessful CPDE Meeting: CSO Accountability and Aid Monitoring

Last week PIANGO successfully carried out a week’s meeting on CSO Accountability and Aid Monitoring with funding from CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE). The meeting was not only beneficial to Fiji CSOs and NGO bodies that were attending but also provided a broad spectrum of dialogue with regional attendance from PIANGO’s board and regional stakeholders. The meeting also held discussions and knowledge sharing on the Beyond 2015 Campaign that PIANGO is a part of (www.beyond2015.org) in light of the post 2015 discussions that will be finalised at the UN General Assembly next September. This is where the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will be succeeded by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a close look at how civil society can influence the local governments on the proposed goals for SDGs was presented.

There were representatives from the Australian government (DFAT), New Zealand AID, Fiji Community Development Program (FCDP) and the European Union to speak on Aid in the Fiji and regional context. The meeting was also guided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UNDP Pacific Centre on the post 2015 discussions and how that links in to CSO accountability on development issues within Fiji and ultimately in the region. A minimum standard code was established by participants at this meeting as a way forward, but before this capacity building and organisational strengthening were key to PIANGO’s network and the Fiji Council of Social Services role in the catalytic construction of this code. The meeting was also picked up by media and the following link is the coverage on Fiji One News. You can start viewing from 31.54 mins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy5KsTobWQI
